Given english bull terrier’s strong-willed nature and muscular body, sometimes it feels like Rocco is taking you on a walk. At a friends suggestion, Rocco tested out the Gentle Leader Headcollar to see how it would improve his pulling tendency. This collar has an adjustable nose loop that painlessly removes a dog’s pulling by placing pressure at the back of the neck and not the throat. The package also suggested that the Gentle Leader Headcollar would help improve lunging, excessive barking, and anxiousness.
Additionally, this product is not a muzzle, Rocco was able to bark, drink, and fetch with this on. The Gentle Leader comes with helpful fitting instructions, training guide, and a more comprehensive DVD. The friendly staff at Petco also invited us back for additional fitting instructions if we had any questions or concerns.
Rocco was pretty patient while we fitted him and was only slightly annoyed by the collar while he walked. The Gentle Leader dog collar helped immediately with excessive pulling and it was not as much of a struggle when he did pull. Rocco tended to stay close and not bounce around like he normally does. He did try to nudge the collar off a few times by running his nose along the grass, but the training guide gave advice on how to correct this behavior. Another great feature of this dog collar is that Rocco can’t get out of it like a normal collar, which he has most recently started doing.
We will continue using the Gentle Leader dog collar as part of Rocco’s socialization training. The Gentle Leader dog collar definitely makes walks more enjoyable and is a great value for the price.
